Eva Macaluso offers over 30 years of training and experience in mental health and coaching as a Licensed clinical mental health counselor and board-certified life coach. At her Sarasota practice and online, she has customized treatment for countless patients to help them focus on evolving their potential, create positive change and lead fulfilling lives. And now, Macaluso has taken her evidence-based approaches one step further with her new book, 4anxiety: An Integrative Holistic Approach, a comprehensive workbook designed to help readers combat anxiety with evidence-based strategies and actionable steps for a freer, more balanced life.
With a graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA, Macaluso, a Danbury, Connecticut native, moved from the New England area to Sarasota over 14 years ago and set up private practice on Osprey Avenue where she works with anxiety, depression, behavioral and body image issues while also providing coaching.
Focusing on holistic healing, Macaluso’s book draws on her years of experience. “It's a self-help tool, though it’s most effective when used with a counselor or in a group setting,” she explains. “The workbook is structured to guide readers through the most effective evidence-based strategies, helping them understand their symptoms and providing tools to manage them.”
Throughout the book, readers are logging cognitive symptoms; the ways they think about things, the physiological symptoms–what's happening in their bodies–and then the behavioral symptoms–what they’re doing when they are anxious, which typically involves escaping, avoiding or over controlling conditions to try to manage the internal world.
“I help people understand the different components as they're working through the book,” says Macaluso. “It's neurobiologically informed which means that there's some information about the physiology of the body and what happens with anxiety and the stress response.” Macaluso’s goal with the book is to help readers uncover their personal anxiety patterns and learn coping strategies that lead to less avoidance and greater engagement with life. As a mother of teenage twins, Macaluso is particularly aware of the challenges facing today’s youth, with anxiety fueled by social media, global events and other pressures. For this reason, she says that 4anxiety would be ideal for both parents and teens looking for practical tools to navigate anxiety together.
