Something’s brewing in the caffeine caucus but it’s certainly no revolution, and Perq Coffee Bar continues its annual slow-roasted dominance of the coffee scene with another year of Flat Whites and Kyoto-style cold brew nabbing top spot. But The Clever Cup Coffee Shop makes an impressive showing, debuting at first runner-up with voters calling for more Honey Lattes, as Pastry Art drops a notch to second runner-up. Buddy Brew gets a jolt from espresso fans and hits the list at third runner-up.
Sam Robertson (on Perq): It’s more than a neighborhood coffee shop. They care so much about their craft, and it always comes through in consistent and delicious coffee drinks. They always take the time to educate you on the different drinks and the different coffee roasts that are constantly changing. Leanna Breese (on Perq): Perq’s baristas are skilled artisans. Each drink is carefully made to perfection with a beautiful flower, heart, etc. design to finish off the top. Tracy de Villette (on The Clever Cup): The atmosphere is relaxing and the art work is different from what you normally find in Sarasota. I have been looking for a place that serves organic coffee for a long time and once I tried it I was hooked. Chris Voelker (on Pastry Art): Pastry Art is my “go to” place for an afternoon break with great coffee and delicious pastries. Patricia K. Woodruff (on Pastry Art): I still remember the taste of my first cup of cafe au lait from there. 15 years ago. Knocked my New York socks off. Always has/still does. Heaven help you if you also order some pastry to go with it. Don’t wear socks or shoes. Kelli Gouwens (on Pastry Art): Pastry Art is a place I like to go to on Sunday’s to start my week—people watching, reading the paper, drinking their delicious coffee, and on occasion having one of their amazing Espresso Muffins is what I call a perfect Sunday Morning.
