Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation is funding the future for preventative and restorative healthcare with Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s (SMH) new Rehabilitation Pavilion.

Offering patients cutting edge technology, spacious facilities and state of the art amenities, Sarasota Memorial’s Rehabilitation Pavilion, slated to open in the spring of 2017, will offer the best in rehabilitation. The Pavilion will feature 44 spacious private rooms, eventually increasing to 54, with sofa-beds for patient family overnight stays.

The Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation is hard at work raising funds to ensure every patient’s specific needs can be addressed at the new facility. “We appreciate the generous support the community has already provided. There remain, however, other critical funding needs for the project such as cutting-edge technology and equipment that will provide invaluable benefit for those recovering from debilitating conditions. There still are various naming opportunities available for a variety of gifts for the Rehabilitation Pavilion,” Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation President, Mason Ayres states. “This is a wonderful way to support a facility and service that has such a direct and important impact on those in need of rehabilitation services,” he added.

This equipment and technology – some of the first-of-its-kind for the area – will allow physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists to use their skills where most beneficial for patients.

Among other advanced technologies, the new Rehabilitation Pavilion will feature the Ekso GT robotic exoskeleton to help spinal cord injury and stroke patients safely take the next step in their journey to walk independently, and the Bioness gait training and integrated–therapy system to promote patients’ balance, visual perception and eye-hand coordination. SMH therapists will also increase their offerings of functional electrical stimulation to activate muscles and speed recovery. Other new features include a pressure mapping system used in beds and wheelchairs to identify and prevent pressure points.

With the Rehabilitation Pavilion nearly complete, the Sarasota Memorial Healthcare Foundation looks forward to the future of rehabilitation on the Gulf Coast.

“We are excited about what this facility will do for our community. The Foundation is grateful for all those who have given to the Rehabilitation Pavilion and welcome others in the community to step forward who might have an interest,” Mr. Ayres said.
