Believing in Every Child’s Potential
Children First
As one of the nation’s top 10 Head Start providers, Children First is empowering vulnerable families in our community each day. For some it’s a safe, nurturing environment for their baby. For others, it’s a quality early childhood education or a support system that helps them reach their goals.
Children First offers full-day preschool, infant and toddler care, nutritious meals and health screenings for at-risk children from birth to five years old, and works with pregnant mothers to ensure they have access to necessary pre-natal care and education. Each family has a dedicated Family Advocate who works with them to establish and achieve their own personal and professional goals. They also have access to a licensed mental health counselor on site. More than 95 percent of Children First’s families are living at or below the federal poverty guideline, and most receive these services at no cost. To further enhance family support services, Children First’s Families First Institute offers free courses to the public on topics like parenting, budgeting and career readiness.
While there is a waiting list for services, approximately 700 children annually have the opportunity to reach their full potential. With your help, we believe they can succeed. As a nonprofit organization, community support is critical in advancing the mission of Children First: to strengthen children and families by improving the quality of their lives through a comprehensive approach to development, education, health and well-being.
