Most dog owners don't need an excuse to celebrate (ahem, spoil) their pups. But what about those mutts that haven't yet found their "furever" homes? The animal rescue organizations that sponsor National Pet Week encourage pet owners and enthusiasts alike to take a moment to help the more than 7 million dogs and cats around the country that need a loving home. Shops like Woof Gang Bakery have joined forces to put on adoption events and fundraisers and to supply donation boxes to help animals in need.
Woof Gang, a Florida-based franchise, is striving to raise awareness about animal rescue; though the store on St. Armands Circle doesn't have dogs available for adoption on-site, you can make a much-appreciated donation to local rescue groups at the counter. While you are there, pick up some specialty bakery treats for your best bud—and don't forget to put together a mix-and-match bag for the donation box. All treats are human-grade and sugar-free—Woof Gang employee Jackie Hodgson recommends dunking the peanut butter patty in your own morning coffee.
