Girl Scout Council Receives Grant from Selby Foundation

Business

Girl Scouts from Bradenton/Sarasota and surrounding areas will soon be enjoying a new dock and pier structure at Camp Honi Hanta. Girl Scouts of Gulfcoast Florida announced a $13,926 grant award from the William G. and Marie Selby Foundation. The funds will be used to remove aging dock materials and construct a new dock and fishing/observation platform on the Braden River. Located in north Manatee County, Camp Honi Hanta hosts an average of more than 600 Girl Scouts and volunteers each month. In addition to canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, camp activities include archery, a climbing wall and low-ropes challenge course, nature trails, and a swimming pool. The 123-acre camp first opened to Girl Scouts in 1953.

Construction on the project is expected to begin sometime in January and will take approximately one month to complete.
