Sarasota Memorial Hospital and Doctors Hospital of Sarasota have each received an “A” for patient safety, according to Leapfrog Group’s latest hospital safety report card. This is the third time in a row that Sarasota Memorial has participated in Leapfrog’s national safety survey and received back-to-back A’s for preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. For Doctors Hospital, it is the eighth consecutive time. Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Most local hospitals received “C” grades. SMH and Doctors Hospital are two of 832 across the nation that received A’s.
