Meals On Wheels of Sarasota Responds to Rising Demand for Food and Resources

The Giving Coast

In response to heightened need during the coronavirus pandemic, Meals On Wheels of Sarasota has partnered with the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to address food insecurity in the community. The bank’s $20,000 contribution will support the organization’s mission to deliver meals and perform important safety checks with those who are unable to leave their home or prepare a meal for themselves.

"Bank of America’s support will help Meals On Wheels meet the increased demand for critical services from our clients who are food insecure and have little to no support from family members or caregivers," said Marjorie Broughton, executive director of Meals On Wheels of Sarasota. "For years, the bank has been an integral part of supporting our mission, with leaders serving on our board of directors and countless volunteer efforts, this partnership is now more crucial than ever, and we will rise to the occasion together."

Each day, Meals On Wheels of Sarasota hand delivers nearly 700 nutritious meals, which are cooked, prepares and packaged, to homebound individuals. Due to the coronavirus, the organization is experiencing an increase in the demand of the meal program that helps those in need maintain a healthy lifestyle while living independently. With a focus on improving lives and strengthening communities, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation recently announced $100 million to support communities around the world during this time of need. As part of this effort, the bank is working with local nonprofits that are going above and beyond to provide assistance to those in urgent need amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Meals On Wheels of Sarasota ensures homebound individuals are provided food, care and the ability to maintain their desired quality of life,” said Lisa Krebs-Knepp, board president for Meals On Wheels of Sarasota and vice president for Bank of America Private Bank in Sarasota. “We are committed to ensuring that mission endures during this pandemic, when the enrichment and stability it provides is needed most.”
