Weird and Wonderful New Faces at Mote Aquarium

Things To Do

Like oceans and watersheds, Mote Aquarium is always changing. During your next visit, stop by the exhibit "Oh Baby! Life Cycles of the Seas" and check out one of the newer resident animals: axolotls! These adorable aquatic salamanders have external gills. They never undergo metamorphosis, meaning they retain juvenile features even when fully grown. Wild axolotls' ability to regenerate organs after injury can offer insight into regenerative medicine in humans.
