Looking for delicious, authentic German food in Sarasota? Book a spot at the Schnitzel Kitchen in Gulf Gate. Berlin-trained Chef Kerstin has created a portal to Europe with an Epcot-worthy ode to her home country. An interior dining room that’s as much an event as the meal itself, the walls are adorned with countless knickknacks and tsotchkes and thingamabobs a plenty including antlers, beer steins, clocks, plates and old-fashioned German countryside woodblock paintings. Especially with Oktoberfest canceled in Germany, your taste buds will owe you big time. The staff, dressed in traditional Lederhosen, serve up drinks in giant glasses, but it's the food that will have you coming back to scratch that epicurean itch. Stick-to-your-ribs, homestyle cooking warms you up on even the rainiest of nights. Start with the sausage bites wrapped in bacon served with a delectable cheesy dipping sauce and mini pretzel bites and move into a crispy Schnitzel vom Schwein (pork) with Mushroom Cream Sauce and Sauerbraten, an incredibly tender beef dish that takes three days to prepare. Each dish comes with a choice of two sides such as mashed potatoes, Spätzle (homemade german noodles), tangy red cabbage or fresh cucumber salad with dill. Insider tip, the schnitzel can easily feed four people. The staff truly make you feel like you're eating in your long-lost, German family's home kitchen — you may even be treated to a homemade blackberry liqueur, a wonderfully sweet finish to a satisfying meal. Schnitzel Kitchen is open Tuesday through Saturday from 4:30pm to 9:00pm.
