Sandwiched between two taquerias inside the Oneco Farmer’s Market in Bradenton is a fried chicken joint ready to put Popeye’s out of business.
Barnyard Betty is serving up homestyle chicken and wings but those in the know order the wrap. Their scratch-made deep fried chicken is chopped up and mixed with bacon, lettuce, tomato, shredded cheese and ranch in a spinach tortilla. The secret, surprise ingredient–and star of the show, is the corn. Crispy, crunchy and sweet it adds an unexpected twist and creates a delicious wrap/burrito mash-up.
To truly get the full barnyard experience skip the fries and double down on the chicken with wings as your side. Another insider tip? Order the hot lemon pepper–a mix of buffalo sauce and lemon pepper seasoning. The lemon pepper adds a savory note to the spice and the marinated chicken falls right off the bone. Pair any of this with their syrupy-sweet and sour lemonades either classic or strawberry pina colada and you’re set.
Barnyard Betty is open all week 11am to 7pm.
