Sarasota Centennial Celebration Explores Local History through the Art of Marlane Wurzbach

As part of the yearlong Sarasota County Centennial Celebration, the Centennial Steering Committee is pleased to co-host a public dialogue at our Centennial Partner Art Uptown Gallery, 1367 Main St, Sarasota, on Sunday, October 3 at 1:00pm. The program will highlight artist Marlane Wurzbach’s vibrant acrylics of historic local buildings including The Oaks, Ca’ d’Zan, Dr. Joseph Halton’s house, and many others both past and present. Dr. Frank Cassell, local historian, author, and Chairman of Sarasota County’s Centennial Steering Committee will provide historical context and anecdotes to accompany Ms. Wurzbach’s work.
Ms. Wurzbach’s work will be on display at the Gallery through October 29th in an exhibit entitled “Building Sarasota’s Stories”. Her work is invaluable in representing and preserving the local architecture on canvas. Dr. Cassell is the author of Suncoast Empire – Bertha Honoré Palmer, Her Family, and the Rise of Sarasota and Creating Sarasota County. Dr. Cassell is also the Chairman of Sarasota County’s Centennial Steering Committee. achievements by promoting cultural and historical activities available to all citizens and visitors
