The Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects, AIA Florida, has named the 2022 recipients of its highest design awards recognizing architects throughout Florida and the Caribbean. Architect Jonathan Parks AIA of the Sarasota architecture firm SOLSTICE Planning and Architecture was bestowed with a design award for the City of Sarasota’s St. Armands Parking Garage which was recognized with a Citation Award of Excellence in Sustainability. More than 250 submissions were received for the design awards, where a Barcelona-based jury of architectural experts judged work from Florida, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The awards ceremony will be held July 30th at the annual 2022 AIA Florida Convention at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida.
“The goal of sustainability and obtaining the Parksmart designation was extremely important,” said Mark Lyons, Parking Division Manager for the City of Sarasota. “The City of Sarasota established a goal to achieve 100% use of renewable energy in city buildings by 2030. This project was a fantastic culmination of community effort and achievement that keeps moving our vision for the community forward.”
