This Sunday, venture down to the Ringling College of Art and Design, for the Fresco fashion show. The show, which runs from 5pm-7pm, is the product of a cross-disciplinary team of students and features a design collection made from upcycled materials in an effort to raise awareness about the fashion industry’s impact on the environment. The Fresco fashion show is the final installment of the Ringling College of Art and Design’s Head to Toe, an exhibition curated by students that highlights the design of fashion designer Marie Colbert.

“The Fresco show is a sustainable clothing fashion show that is the product of a student-led organization. The students draw inspiration from the Head to Toe exhibition that features the clothing collection of Marie Colbert,” says Tim Jaeger, the Director and Chief Curator of Galleries and Exhibitions at Ringling College. “There was a call to designers, which are all students, to design a full wardrobe of sustainable clothing for the runway show this Sunday. Each design falls under the thematic umbrella of innovation in the fashion world. It’s really exciting.”

The Head to Toe exhibition – and within that, the Fresco fashion show – continues with the Ringling Galleries practice of involving students in the curatorial process and allowing them to draw inspiration from real-world artists and designers. “For many years now, I’ve noticed the student interest in fiber arts and as a curator and director, I then try to find the exhibition that will nourish the creativity of the student. We selected this exhibition and the student and community involvement has just been an amazing response – we’ve never offered an exhibition quite like this before,” says Jaeger. “It’s meant to bridge generational gaps and meant to introduce a universal language that transcends and shifts the culture of fashion.”
