Crime Prevention Seminar for Senior Citizens

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office Economic Crimes and Crime Prevention Units will present an educational seminar to assist senior citizens in avoiding various scams and frauds. The presentation will cover diverse topics, including types of scams, detecting and avoiding them, and how and when to report them to law enforcement. Additionally, the attendees will be made aware of fraudulent contracting issues that have been more prevalent in the wake of Hurricane Ian. The Venice Community Center on the Island of Venice will house the event on Thursday, March 2. The presentation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. The agenda will also include a question-and-answer session. Besides the speakers from the sheriff’s office, there will be information provided by the United States Secret Service, the State Attorney’s Office, banking industry officials, and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
