Mr. Terrence Connor Named Superintendent of Sarasota County Schools

During its Special School Board Meeting on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, the Sarasota County School Board voted 3-2 to appoint Mr. Terrence Connor – the current Deputy Superintendent & Chief Academic Officer of Hillsborough County Public Schools – as Sarasota County’s new Superintendent of Schools. The School Board of Sarasota County also voted 5-0 to approve the School Board Chair and General Council to start contract negotiations with the newly appointed Superintendent of Schools. A statement from Mr. Terrence Connor: “I am grateful to the board for choosing me to lead the schools in this wonderful community. I share the district’s vision for keeping learning at the center of everything we do and have seen the great things that can happen when educators and families are committed to doing that. Together, I know we will work to help all of our students succeed and can make Sarasota County Schools No. 1 in the state.” Mr. Connor holds a bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education from the University of North Florida and a Master of Administration & Management from Nova Southeastern University. He holds Florida Educator's Certifications in Educational Leadership (All Levels); School Principal (All Levels); General Science (Grades 5-9); Mathematics (Grades 5-9); and Physical Education (Grade K-12). Mr. Connor completed the National Institute of School Leadership’s (NISL) Executive Development Program and holds an Instructional Coaching Certification from the University of Florida’s Lastinger Center for Learning. Before serving in his current role as the Deputy Superintendent & Chief Academic Officer of Hillsborough County Public Schools, Mr. Connor served as the Chief Academic Officer/Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction for Clay County District Schools as well as the Chief of Secondary Education for Clay County District Schools. He has also served as the Principal of Samuel W. Wolfson High School, the Principal of Oceanway School, the Assistant Principal of Curriculum at Oceanway School, and a 7th & 8th Grade Comprehensive Science Teacher at Oceanway School, all within Duval County Public Schools.
