Each year, SRQ Media invites the community to nominate individuals with hearts of giving who have made a significant impact with local nonprofit organizations — from volunteers and board members to individual staff members and donors. Tuesday, December 5th, attendees happily joined together to recognize our annual Good Hero Philanthropic Award recipients at the SB2: Philanthropic Agenda and Good Hero Awards Luncheon at Michael’s on East in Sarasota. We are delighted to feature each of the twelve honorees in our Wednesday Philanthropic edition of SRQ Daily.

Today we are recognizing Amanda and John Horne of Oysters Rock Hospitality who are known in the community and hospitality industry for constantly striving for excellence both in business operations and efforts to ensure that their company helps as many people as they possibly can. They are respected for their leadership, kindness and endless dedication to the staff and community. John and Amanda’s team shares that hospitality means ensuring that everyone at the table knows that they belong. Serving people in their restaurants allows the Hornes to build relationships within the community and give back through their Shuckin' Good Cause program, the philanthropic arm of Oysters Rock Hospitality. The Shuckin' Good Cause Fund, is designed to provide financial assistance and support to employees facing various hardships or emergencies. Shuckin Good Cause also raises funds for and contributes independently to a variety of partner and nonprofit organizations in the areas of education, heroes, advocacy groups for the hospitality industry and business community and organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals with health challenges along with their families and for all community members through arts, culture, and placemaking. Oysters Rock Hospitality is perhaps best known for its flagship summer reading program, Dive Into Reading, which aims to improve children’s reading levels by combating “Summer Slide.” Congratulations, John and Amanda.
