Mctlaw is honored to announce the promotion of attorney Michael Cowgill to a partnership position. Mctlaw is nationally recognized for its work in complex litigation including product liability, defective hip and knee replacements, kratom wrongful death lawsuits, vaccine injury compensation, and representation of Native American tribes.Michael Cowgill's promotion to partner at mctlaw is the culmination of a stellar legal career at the Firm. Mr. Cowgill has distinguished himself in national mass tort cases against major corporate defendants, including Johnson & Johnson and Biomet Orthopaedics, in lawsuits related to defective hip implants. Additionally, Michael has emerged as a leading attorney in the United States for high-profile kratom wrongful death lawsuits. Michael represents the families of victims who have died after taking kratom, an over-the-counter, opiate-like substance, illegally imported into the US but sold nationwide. Mr. Cowgill’s efforts resulted in two recent groundbreaking legal victories, including the first kratom wrongful death trial in the United States with an $2.5 million dollar jury verdict in Washington state and a second substantial judgment of $11.6 million in a Florida kratom wrongful death lawsuit. Michael joined mctlaw in 2018 and is based in the firm’s Florida office. A native of Miami, he graduated magna cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School in Oregon. He earned his bachelor’s degree from New College of Florida. Michael and his wife Majka live in Sarasota, FL with their son James and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their second child.
