Cantors of the Bay Area Cantorial Association (BACA) in association with Rabbi Stephen Sniderman of Temple Beth Israel of Longboat Key will present “A MUSICAL MITZVAH FOR ISRAEL” concert benefiting the Israel Emergency Fund of the Jewish Federations of North America, on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 3 PM at Temple Emanu-El, 151 McIntosh Rd., Sarasota, FL 34232. Tickets will be available at the door for a suggested donation of $36 each (cash or check only). All donations of any amount will be gratefully accepted and no one will be turned away. The Cantors include Cliff Abramson, Temple Sinai of Sarasota; Riselle Bain, Temple Israel of Highlands County; Tanya Greenblatt, Congregation. Beth Am of Tampa; Joy Katzen-Guthrie, Temple Ahavat Shalom of Palm Harbor; Jonathan Schultz, Congregation B'nai Israel of St. Petersburg; Kei Reea Sulhi, Temple Beth Israel of Longboat Key; Marci Vitkus, Jewish Congregation of Venice; Roger Weisberg Cantor Emeritus of Congregation Beth Judea of Long Grove, IL; world-renowned Hazzan Alberto Mizrahi; and pianist Scott Sable of Temple Emanu-El of Sarasota. Founded in 2002 by members of the Tampa Bay cantorial community and now in its 22nd year, BACA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising scholarship monies for Reform and Conservative sacred music study. BACA has raised more than $71,000 toward cantorial scholarships for students BACA has also provided significant donations to new publications of liturgical Jewish music including a gift of $5,000 to Transcontinental Music Publications (a division of the American Conference of Cantors) as a sponsor for the Mikraei Kodesh compilation of sacred music for Jewish lifecycle events.
