New College of Florida and the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the International Churchill Society will cohost “Churchill at Yalta, Triumph and Tragedy” on Monday, March 25, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. in College Hall, 351 College Drive, Sarasota, Florida. Dr. Joseph Loconte will present on the role of Churchill as the West grappled with Stalin to shape the post-World War II world. Loconte is a Presidential Scholar in Residence at New College and has produced numerous scholarly works, including a forthcoming book, on the Yalta Conference. The event is free and open to the public. “The Yalta Conference is a fascinating intersection of Western Civilization and the aspirations of the Soviet Union and World War II was about to give way to more than four decades of Cold War era tension,” said New College President Richard Corcoran. “I encourage our students, faculty and staff to attend and explore that pivotal moment in history through the lens of Churchill.” The event is part of the Socratic Stage event series, and also associated with Churchill 150, a celebration of 150 years since the birth of Winston Churchill.
