This weekend, bring the family down to the Circus Arts Conservatory’s Sailor Circus Arena to catch this year’s iteration of Cirque des Voix: Circus of the Voices. The unique arts collaboration, now in its 14th year, brings together the over 100 voices of Key Chorale and the 40-piece Cirque Orchestra with live circus artists. This year’s production will feature three separate performances across Friday and Saturday, all including acts that audiences have never seen before.

“This year’s show is called Untraveled Worlds,” says Joseph Caulkins, artistic director of Key Chorale and ringmaster of the show. “With that in mind, we’ve got performers from Mongolia, two different performers from Russia, from Ethiopia, the UK and the U.S. so we’ve really focused on covering different parts of the world. The other part that we focused on was having a similar theme with the music, we’ve got a lot of pieces from the world of gaming and film with works from Fortnight, Assassin's Creed, Jurassic Park and even a suite from Game of Thrones.”

One of the unique parts of this year’s show is that students of the Sailor Circus Academy will have an expanded role. Instead of just partaking in one act, the students will perform to an 11-minute suite from Game of Thrones, allowing them to perform in multiple circus disciplines from aerial acrobatics to groundwork. “The idea with this 11-minute suite that really pulls four different pieces from Game of Thrones is that we're going to be featuring each one of the disciplines that the Sailor Circus students train in,” says Caulkins. “We’re excited to feature the Sailor Circus in a variety of different ways this year.”

Other acts in this year’s show include Tersit Asefa Dersu, a speed juggler who will be performing to Paul Halley’s “Untraveled Worlds”, Buyankhishig and Erdenesuvd Ganbaatar, doing a contortion act to the “Assassin's Creed Suite” and the Ganbaatar Sisters with their duo aerial act to “Skyfall,” just to name a few.
