Meet Jason Brown, co-owner of the new Elements Massage in University Park, a personalized massage studio that offers Swedish and deep-tissue massages through a month-to-month membership option. Brown shares his inspirations, business ideals, and how Elements Massage in University Park came to be.

What do you hope to bring to the community with Elements Massage?

Elements Massage, at its core, is a customized therapeutic massage experience. Folks who want to go are met with a warm atmosphere and receive a customized session at an affordable rate. They can get in and out with their busy schedules and receive the high-quality massage service that they want. We make it just a great experience for them. With a busy community like Sarasota, taking care of yourself should be as casual as changing the oil on your car. Relaxation is such a vital part of living a healthy lifestyle.

What is your origin story?

There was an Elements Massage beside our location for 15 years and the owner recently retired. My wife Irene and I love the area. Their properties are beautiful, and the studio that was there did extremely well. We knew that if we could just get back in there, we could pick up where she left off, hopefully, and keep it going. Espie Torres, my wife's sister, approached us about coming into business with us so we made her a business partner—she's there full-time running the studio.

What podcasts inspire you in your business life?

I get little bits and pieces from different ones, but mostly I listen to online messages from pastors like Craig Groeschel, and Steven Furtick—what they talk about is very practical and applicable to business.

What book are you reading now that expands on your business acumen?

The book I read every day is the Bible. That's where I draw most of my leadership skills from. I also read up on news within the business world to gain insight. One thing that inspires me are the teachings of Bob Farrell, who started Ferrell's Ice Cream 25 years ago. He says this phrase that goes, “If you go into business to make money, you'll fail, but if you go into business to provide a service, you'll make all the money you want.” And I really take that to heart.
