Coastal elegance shines through this beachfront Longboat Key condo with custom pieces like warm, walnut countertops, mirrored and paneled white walls, built-in glass shelves, ombre-colored fan tiling and a coral-inspired hanging light fixture. “Oftentimes, people will rip out old, dated features in a renovation, but I’m really happy that we gave features like the mirrored wall new life because it reflects the water and the light coming in from the beach beautifully,” says Kelly Kaiser, the owner and lead designer of Orange Moon Interiors.
The homeowner, for this full interior renovation project, enlisted Kaiser to bring a very specific, “creative and fun” vision to life. And in a world full of minimalistic, neutral design spaces trending today, this client wanted color. “She didn’t let trends define how her home should look, she instead let her own happiness guide her design decisions,” says Kaiser. “She feels happy inside of color and she wanted this space to be her happy place.” A seascape color palette really brings it home for this Gulfside dwelling while the accessories say “you’re at the beach,” but “with texture, instead of kitsch,” notes Kaiser. A color expert in her field, choosing that absolute perfect shade for a color-loving client is paramount—even more so, finding the right shade of blues for those residing by the ocean.
Landing on unique shades of blue for this particular client, a deep slate grasscloth wallpaper envelops the master suite bedroom with texture that mimics waves while aqua-azure and turquoise mosaic backsplash tiling in the bathroom suggest fish, or mermaid, scales. “Ironically, in the beginning of the design process, the client really wanted to steer clear of aqua,” shares Kaiser, “but as the design evolved we both discovered that when aqua was mixed into the space, she really loved it. This mixture of blues brings a richness that makes this home so comfortable, it hugs you like a warm beach towel.”
