Best Burger: Patrick's 1481
What’s an election year season without some solid campaigns? But our voters, who once again awarded Grapevine Communications with this prize, admired the more selfless work on behalf of local nonprofits. C-Suite Communications took the first runner-up position this year, with Knight Marketing coming in at second runner-up and Brian Carlock Creative Solutions proved a solid vote-getter as third runner-up. —JO
Catherine Larose (on Grapevine Communications): Grapevine does a great job at building brand identities. The Seasons Memory Care logo touches the heart. The Boys and Girls Club Annual Report captures the organization’s mission in simple, clean design. They support all sorts of non-profits in the community, either by donating their time and talent or through financial support by attending fundraisers or making donations. Kathy Bender (on C-Suite): They live, breathe, work, eat and play here; they know and understand the Sarasota community and our passion for the arts. Their leadership fosters a culture of service, whether it’s serving on non-profit boards, pro bono work or setting aside a weekday for everyone to help with Habitat for Humanity new construction.

Those predicting an upset were in for one of their own as Patrick’s 1481 coasted to another charbroiled victory in this year’s Best Burger election. Supporters cited exceptional variety and key positions on bacon and grilled onions as central factors. Gecko’s Grill and Pub and its Blue Cheese Burger wrangled up a first runner-up finish, while Square 1 returns to the list as second runner-up after a year’s absence. Last year’s first runner-up, S’macks Burgers and Shakes, holds on at third runner-up.—PL
Fred Lasky (on Patrick’s): Being a native of The Bronx (note the capitals!), an emporium featuring a juicy, tasty burger with such a title deserves a double thumbs up from me. Jason Owens (on Gecko’s) Management of their $5 burger Wednesday is nothing short of perfect. When ordering a burger, you can actually tell the difference between ordering medium vs. medium rare. Randy Kraft (on Square One): Reasonably priced, with frequent buy-one-get-one promotions. Can get burgers of all kinds on a bed of greens, instead of a bun. Best onion rings around.
