[The Dish]  Festival Fun in Wellen Park

Wellen ParkTM is a master-planned community that is quickly becoming known as a culinary hotspot. This reputation will only be enhanced by the brand-new Wellen Park Wine Festival.

The Wellen Park Wine Festival is a two-day event planned for Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16, 2024. Taking place on the Great Lawn in Downtown Wellen and along Wellen Park Boulevard, the festival will be a celebration of respected winemakers and the culinary prowess of Wellen Park restaurateurs.

“We are thrilled to host our first-ever wine festival and plan to make it an annual event,” says Christine Masney, vice president of marketing for Wellen Park. “We are always looking for new exciting cultural opportunities we can bring to our residents and the public, and are sure this will be a big hit.”

There are two different ticket packages available for the Wellen Park Wine Festival. General Admission tickets are $85, and will gain you admission to the main Wine Festival Grand Tasting event on Saturday, November 16th from 1pm to 4pm. This ticketed outdoor event will feature live jazz from the Solis Hall stage, light bites prepared by some of Wellen Park’s favorite restaurants and samples of wine doled out by thirty carefully-selected vintners. For an additional $25, you can also attend an informative Wine Tasting 101 class from 11am to 12pm in Solis Hall to help you make the most of your experience.

For $250, you can get the Premium Experience package and kick off the festivities a day early. Premium Experience ticket holders are invited to attend an exclusive gourmet wine dinner and preview tasting on Friday, November 15, from 6pm to 8:30pm and will also gain early entry to the Grand Tasting event the next day. All Premium Experience and General Admission tickets come with a swag bag, souvenir wine glass and four food tickets for the festival’s food tents which will feature gourmet cuisine from Wellen Park eateries Acqua Pazza, The Banyan House, Oak & Stone and Villani & Co.

Limited seating will be available at Saturday’s Grand Tasting, but festival guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets for the Great Lawn as well as a refillable water bottle. Whether you’re a wine novice or an established oenophile, the inaugural Wellen Park Wine Festival is certainly something to celebrate.

[The Dish]  The Whiskey Passport Dinner at PIER 22

Join Pier 22 for an unforgettable evening of whiskey exploration at our Whiskey Passport Dinner! This five-course culinary event will showcase diverse and exceptional whiskeys from the USA, Ireland, and Scotland. [Hurricane ]  Bishop Closed Due to Hurricane Milton

The Bishop Museum of Science and Nature will remain closed on Tuesday, October 8. We will resume operations as soon as it is safe to do so. Our priority is the well-being of our staff and visitors. Our dedicated Animal Care Team will be here to ensure the safety of Wicket, Morado, and Klondike, the manatees currently in our care.We urge everyone to prioritize their safety. Please refer to our social media channels for updates regarding our reopening. 

[Hurricane Closures]  Selby Gardens Updates

In anticipation of Hurricane Milton, both our Downtown Sarasota and Historic Spanish Point campuses will be closed Tuesday, October 8 through Thursday, October 10. Due to Hurricane Milton, Lights at Spooky Point has been postponed, and will now open on Saturday, October 12. If you currently have tickets for October 9, 10, or 11, please reach out to specialevents@selby.org in order to reschedule. Please check selby.org and our social media channels (Facebook and Instagram) for updates on the status of both campuses. 

[Arts & Entertainment]  Florida Studio Theatre Presents Off the Charts

Florida Studio Theatre (FST) will take audiences on a nostalgic musical journey, with Off the Charts, an original cabaret of jukebox pop favorites by Rebecca Hopkins and Richard Hopkins & Sarah Durham with musical arrangements by Jim Prosser. Previews begin on October 2, opens on October 4 and runs through February 9, 2025, in the Court Cabaret, located in the Hegner Theatre Wing at FST. 

[Hurricane ]  Venice Theatre cancels classes Monday Through Wednesday and Performances on Tuesday and Wednesday

Out of caution in preparation for Hurricane Milton Venice Theatre will be closed Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday. Oct, 9.  The box office is currently contacting ticket holders about rescheduling "The Torch Bearers" and "Agnes of God." The theatre's website is available for ticket sales, class registrations, and information updates at www.venicetheatre.org.  The theatre team wishes safety and strength to all facing the hurricane. 

[Hurricane ]  Tuesday School Board and Shade Meetings Cancelled

The School Board meeting, and shade meetings scheduled for Tuesday, October 8, 2024, are cancelled due to Hurricane Milton. The next regularly scheduled meeting of the School Board is Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 5 p.m 

[Closures]  Manatee Clerk's Office Extends Closure Through Friday Due to Hurricane Milton

The Office of Angelina “Angel” Colonneso, Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, will be closed beginning at 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday, October 7, through Friday, October 11, due to Hurricane Milton. Regular office updates will be provided on Facebook at @ManateeClerk. 

[Hurricane ]  HCA Florida Englewood Hospital to Transfer Patients in Preparation for Hurricane Milton

In preparation for Hurricane Milton, HCA Florida Englewood Hospital has initiated the planned transfer of patients to other facilities in the area. Patients are being safely transferred to facilities that can best provide the care they require in more stable surroundings. Contacts of patients are being notified at this time and a patient reunification hotline has been established at 844-482-4821. Patient transfer is expected to be complete by noon on Tuesday, October 8 when the hospital will close. HCA Florida Englewood Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation and Wound Care Center will close from noon on Tuesday, October 8 through Thursday, October 10. This is a short-term solution to streamline resources during the hurricane. [SOON]  GRAB BAG: Fresh Harvest Farmers Market at Wellen Park , June 25 – May 31, 9 am to 1 pm

Visit Fresh Harvest, the newly launched weekly farmers market in Downtown Wellen. Fresh Harvest offers a selection of local goods from nearly 40 local vendors. Fresh Harvest takes place every Sunday in Downtown Wellen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees can peruse different vendor booths and stock up on a variety of goods. Vendors will offer a wide variety of locally grown and produced food, including herbs, spices, cut flowers, teas, canned and preserved fruits and vegetables, syrups, baked goods, pickled foods, fresh seafood, meats, poultry, eggs, milk and prepared food and beverages. The Night Market features independent artists and makers specializing in art, jewelry, boutique fashion, home decor, bottle art, wood designs and specialty food items set up along Wellen Park Boulevard with 50 rotating vendors. [SOON]  FESTIVAL: Wellen Park Wine Festival , November 15 – November 16, 1-4pm

Wellen Park is kicking off Southwest Florida’s wine festival season with the inaugural Wellen Park Wine Festival. The ticketed outdoor event will feature 30 vintners, a wine class for those aspiring to learn more about wine, live music, light bites and plenty of opportunities for aficionados to sip, swirl, savor and shop dozens of wines. The festival, taking place along Wellen Park Boulevard and on the Great Lawn in Downtown Wellen, celebrates distinguished winemakers and the culinary talents of Wellen Park restaurateurs.   The Wellen Park Wine Festival offers an exclusive Premium Experience, beginning with a gourmet wine dinner and preview tasting Friday evening, Nov. 15. This package also includes early entry to the grand tasting Saturday, Nov. 16, from 1 to 4 pm. Aimed at elevating the festival experience, an 11am Wine Tasting 101 class will introduce the essentials of wine tasting and how to pick the right wines based on smell and taste.  General admission tickets are $85 for the grand tasting event on Nov. 16. The wine class, from 11 a.m. to noon in Solis Hall, is $25.
