The Republican Party of Sarasota re-elected Jack Brill as chair of the county party on Thursday. And despite friction with right-wing activists in south Sarasota County, Brill won his largest margin of victory in a party election to date.
“I’m honored and humbled by the tremendous support I’ve received in this re-election, and the confidence placed in me and my leadership team,” Brill said in a statement. “Republicans are focused on unity and delivering victories, and together, we’ve achieved both, particularly record-breaking victories on election day. As we move forward, I’m excited to continue working with President (Donald) Trump’s and Florida’s leadership over the next two years to ensure even greater success for our party, our county and our country.”
Brill won in a 148-54 vote, taking 69% of the vote over Duff Smiley. Additionally, Alice Rothbauer won re-election as vice chair, John Coughlin won another term as secretary and Attircus Frank was re-elected as treasurer.
Of note, the landslide victory for Brill came after the Republican Party of Florida removed a number of voting members of the Republican Executive Committee for their association with the Florida Republican Assembly, a group engaged in litigation with the state party. There have been local tensions between the county party and a local chapter of the Republican Assembly, which published a voter guide before the August primary many thought was posing as a list of county party endorsements.
Brill two years ago won election as chair by a much smaller margin of 167-134. While that marked his formal ascension to county chair, he had been acting chair the past four years when Joe Gruters held the formal Chair title but served as Republican Party of Florida state Chair.
Gruters no longer has a position with the local party but serves as the state’s National Committeeman with the Republican National Committee.
Republican State Committeeman Joe Nuender and State Committeewoman Rachel Frank were elected in countywide votes in August.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital – Sarasota Campus was named among the nation's “Best Hospitals for Maternity Care” in a 2025 report issued by U.S. News and World Report. Sarasota Memorial was among just 15% of 2,674 maternity hospitals in the nation that made the 2025 list. To be recognized, hospitals had to demonstrate superior performance on multiple quality metrics that matter to expectant families, including: newborn complication rates; C-section rates in low-risk women; the number of births scheduled too early in pregnancy; whether hospitals gave women the option for vaginal births after cesarean; and how hospitals supported mother-baby bonding and breastfeeding.
En Pointe, a new residential project located on Golden Gate Point, is set to redefine luxury living in Sarasota through thoughtful design and responsible growth. This collaborative effort between ECHT-Architects and Nautilus Homes emphasizes quality over quantity while honoring the unique character of the neighborhood. Leveraging the provisions of Sarasota's Special Overlay Zoning District, ECHT-Architects crafted a modern design that allows for reduced setbacks while capping building heights. This strategic approach permits the construction of just four private residences, ensuring that the project enhances the community rather than overwhelming it. The project is a benchmark for high-level collaboration that results in excellence, demonstrating how design, development, and construction can harmonize for a better Sarasota.

Meals on Wheels of Sarasota recently received a $50,000 donation from IAT Insurance Group following two back-to-back hurricanes that directly impacted our area. The intensity of the storms left senior citizens with little resources to get back on their feet. Many Meals on Wheels clients receive meals for free or at reduced rates and rely on the program to ensure they have a warm meal every day. “IAT Insurance Group is committed to giving back to the communities where we live and work, especially during challenging times,” said IAT Insurance’s Chief Executive Officer Bill Cunningham. “We are grateful to organizations like Meals on Wheels who are doing the groundwork in Sarasota to provide much-needed assistance.” To donate, volunteer, get meals, or learn more about Meals on Wheels, visit www.mealsonwheelsofsarasota.org or call 941-366-6693.

Her journey was as extraordinary as her music. At eighteen, Carole King wrote number one songs for Aretha Franklin and The Drifters. At twenty-nine, she was the voice of a generation. The road along the way was full of love, heartbreak, and self-discovery. It wasn’t always perfect, but it was real - and that's what made it beautiful. A smash hit on Broadway and London’s West End, this soaring and inspiring musical features two decades of King’s hits, including “You’ve Got a Friend,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “I Feel the Earth Move.”
