A precinct-by-precinct analysis of the March 14 Municipal Election featuring highlights and key findings.
KEY FINDINGS
- Even though the number of young voters makes up a significant part of the electorate today, voters in their 60s and 70s continue to dominate thanks to high turnout. Voters in their 90s outnumbered those in their 20s.
- Jennifer Ahearn-Koch performed well in every precinct in the city, the only candidate to do so. Her greatest weakness lies in voter intensity (low bullet vote) and reliance on supporters of candidates who did not advance.
- Hagen Brody did well outside of North Sarasota but had a disparate electorate. He must make sure his voters continue to support him over or as well as his opponents.
- Martin Hyde had great voter intensity but barely made the runoff. He needs to grow his base number of voters and while retaining his supporters from the March election as he goes toward May.
- The Colony question drove incredible turnout on Longboat Key, where voters remain deeply engaged.
- Turnout proved stunningly low in North Port, likely because of a not regularly scheduled election.
