Each year, SRQ Media invites the community to nominate individuals with hearts of giving who have made a significant impact with local nonprofit organizations — from volunteers and board members to individual staff members and donors. This year, attendees were thrilled to be together as we recognized these individuals at our annual Giving Coast and Good Hero Awards luncheon and panel discussion on Tuesday, January 28 at Michael’s on East in Sarasota. In the coming weeks, we are happy to feature each of the ten honorees in our Wednesday Philanthropic edition of SRQ Daily.

Today we are recognizing Hugh Culverhouse Jr., who has been hailed for his generous philanthropic spirit and his unwavering commitment to championing respect, hope and understanding in our community. His belief in art as a catalyst for social change has inspired others to take action and his contributions have opened doors for young people to engage in meaningful discussions on prejudice, acceptance and respect—introducing them to perspectives they may not have encountered otherwise. His philanthropy ensures that these conversations continue to grow and resonate, creating a ripple effect that extends well beyond the classroom. Embracing Our Differences says that Hugh Culverhouse, Jr’s transformative contributions and generosity sustained the organization during a challenging time. “Hugh’s support has had a profound impact on our mission to create a more inclusive world through art and education. His substantial financial contributions, which addressed a critical public funding gap, enabled us to continue our annual outdoor art exhibition and broaden our educational outreach, benefiting thousands of students and teachers throughout the region. Hugh Culverhouse Jr.’s visionary leadership has not only shaped the future of Embracing Our Differences but has also strengthened our community by promoting empathy, understanding, and unity. His steadfast support has allowed us to thrive, even through challenging times, and his dedication to social justice has inspired many to follow his example."
