Donald Trump’s presidential ambitions could put a Sarasota political leader in one of the most important campaign jobs in the country next year. Joe Gruters, chairman of the Republican Party of Sarasota, was announced on Friday as the chairman for Trump’s Florida campaign. “This is one of the few times ever when I have weighed in on a primary,” Gruters said. “I am not endorsing Trump as the chair of the Republican Party of Sarasota or as the vice chair of the Republican Party of Florida, but as an individual I will do all I can for a victory for Donald Trump. “At this point in the country’s history, he is the right person for the job.” Kevin Cooper Moves from Sarasota Chamber to Gulf Coast Community Foundation
The Gulf Coast Community Foundation announced that Kevin Cooper, now the vice president for Public Policy and Sarasota Tommorrow at The Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, will join the foundation as director of Community Investment. He replaces Jon Thaxton, who earlier this week was promoted with Gulf Coast to senior vice president of Community Investment.
“Kevin’s expertise will strengthen Gulf Coast’s ability to drive systemic change,” said Mark Pritchett, president and CEO of Gulf Coast Community Foundation. “With Jon and Kevin working as a team, we can continue to bring the right people together to solve our region’s most pressing issues and leverage Gulf Coast’s community impact.” Cooper has also been a regular columnist with SRQ Daily, publishing a column each month on behalf of the Chamber. |
