Feld Entertainment Will Phase Out Elephant Acts at Circus
Feld Entertainment today announced today that elephant acts would be phased out of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus following years of growing criticism from animal rights organizations. The announcement was made to the Associated Press. "There has been somewhat of a mood shift among our consumers," Alena Feld, executive vice president, told the AP. The decision was immediately met with rejoice from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which has called for ending elephant acts for 35 years. "We know that extreme abuse of these majestic animals occurs every single day, so if Ringling is really telling the truth about ending its road show, then it’s a day to pop the champagne corks and rejoice that the first important step has been taken," PETA officials said in a statement.
