Sarasota City Commissioners voted unanimously tonight to allow Uber to operate its ride-sharing service in the city limits without having to adhere to any local regualtions. Taxi cab comapnies had lobbied the city to regulate the burgeoning service. But Commissioners, in deciding against regualting Uber, also said they would repeal local regulations on taxi cabs within the next few weeks.
"I don't know why we are regulating their affairs anyway," said City Commissioner Liz Alpert.
