Girls Inc. of Sarasota County today announced Angie Stringer, most recently the director of major gifts for Children First, has been hired as executive director of the nonprofit prganization. Stringer, who previously worked at Girls Inc. for four years, starts Aug. 31. “Angie is a past Girls Inc. employee,” said Jennifer Compton, board president of Girls Inc. “She worked for Girls Inc. for four years, left eight years ago and is now coming home. We could not be more pleased to welcome her back at this important time as we embark on new growth initiatives. We know she is the right person to build upon the foundation laid and lead Girls Inc. to the next level as we continue to significantly impact the lives of young girls.” Stringer succeeds Robin Rose, who is leaving the organization to be closer to her husband in St. Augustine. She boasts some 20 years in nonprofit work, including experience in program supervision, program development, strategic planning, staff management, fiscal planning, fundraising and marketing. She will start work days after a summer fundraising campaign that aims to raise $70,000 over 30 days as a match for a donation from Donna Brace Ogilivie to cover scholarships for girls interested in programs. Girls Inc. focuses on giving girls the skills and experiences to "navigate gender, economic and social barriers and grow into healthy, educated and economically independent adults." Girls Inc. Starts Search for New Executive
Robin Rose announced today she will retire as executive driector of Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County for family reasons. The organization has started a national search for a new executive. Girls Inc. focuses on innovative programs to help prepare young women to lead successful, independent and healthy lives. Rose came on board two years ago as the organization was dealing with problems surrounding debt related to a Ponzi scheme involving donor Art Nadel. All of that debt in the past two years has been retired. The organization this year had its most successful annual luncheon in the organization's 27-year history, officials said. “While I am reticent to leave, and this was a gut-wrenching decision for me, I know that I am leaving at a time when the organization is stronger than it has ever been. It is in great hands with a solid plan for its future,” said Rose, who is moving to St. Augustine to be closer to her husband. “It gives me great comfort that since we are in a time of growth and stability in all other areas, and have successfully restructured our team and realigned our mission, that this transition will be made seamlessly and smoothly. This was a deeply personal decision that I had to make in order to focus on my marriage and my husband." Rose will stay on until a new director is hired. |
