Selby Gardens Names Jennifer Rominiecki As President, CEO
The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has named Jennifer Rominiecki, an executive administrator with the New York Botanical Garden. "I am honored to join this dynamic organization as it prepares to celebrate 40 years of world-class leadership and discovery in the field of epiphytic plants," Rominiecki said. “She is the transformational leader perfectly suited to take the helm of Selby Gardens and usher us into a new era,” said Cathy Layton, chair of the Selby Gardens’ board of trustees. Rominiecki starts in her new post on Feb. 9. The hire comes after an international search conducted after the retirement of five-year Selby Gardens CEO Thomas Buchter. He announced his deaprture in September and finished his last day on Oct. 3 after a successful tenure that included the opening of the Children's Rainforest Garden. Rominiecki has worked in various capacity for the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx for the past 15 years, currently serving as vice president for institutional advancement. She said she looks forward to working for an already successful organization here in Florida. "“Botanical gardens, like plants and people, flourish under the right care and conditions. Selby Gardens has obviously been well cared for and loved," she said. She boasts strong fundraising crednetials, and had led an ongoing $479-million capital fundrasiing campaign. Before working for the New York Botanical Garden, Rominiecki held posts at The Metropolitan Opera and the Guggenheim Museum.
